| On May 22, 2004, The Flatbush Pavilion movie theater in Brooklyn closed, just weeks after the release of Van Helsing, which made #2 in Newsweek's 20 Most Disappointing Movies of 2004.
For sixty-three weeks the marquee remained the same, one side read Van Helsing and the other Man on Fire. Then in week sixty-four, Van Helsing and his partner were gone. The letters on the marquee had unexplainably rearranged themselves overnight. Since that time, a new message has magically appeared on the marquee every so often, always utilizing all thirty-eight letters that were originally abandoned well over a year ago. While I'm not at liberty to say who I think the perpetrator(s) may or may not be (but I feel relatively sure that you can find them at Mooneys, the Irish pub across the street on almost any given night), I can offer a thanks for the tip of the hat and an appreciation for the brilliant absurdity of it all. Well-played gentleman. Well-played. an·a·gram n |
